Fifteen artist-members of the Westchase Artists Society present a 2-month exhibit at Carter’s Gallery in Westchase. Each artist will have two pieces in the show.

There will be everything from oil and acrylic paintings, pastel work, pottery, photography and one gentleman who does paper airplane art, said Teresa Trubilla, a photographer and president of the Westchase Artists Society.

Carter’s Gallery, which opened in August, carries an eclectic mix of fine art, gifts and collectibles, Trubilla said.

“It’s an art gallery boutique and (owner Michelle Carter) sells functional artwork like serving dishes,” Trubilla said.

“She likes to focus on things that are made locally.”

The artists participating in the show are: Harvey Berman, watercolors; Linita Calvacca, painter; Rena Charles, painter; Marilyn Chaulk, painter; Toni Crosby, painter; Nancy Cross, painter; Elizabeth Fontaine-Barr, painter; Judy Freeman, pottery; Joose Hadley, painter; Jennifer Joyner, photography; Dean Mackey, paper airplane art; Vanessa Montenegro, drawing and painting; Teresa Trubilla, photography; Sonya Whipple, painter; Susan Whitaker, painter.

“There are also seven computer graphics students showing their work,” said Dorothy Cowden, gallery director. “And that covers skills in printing, marketing material, product design and interactive computer graphics.”

Join the students at a free closing reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Scarfone/Hartley Gallery, in the R.K. Bailey Arts Studios, 310 N. Boulevard, on the UT campus.

Gallery features jewelry, handbags Today is the first Saturday of the month and that means the Singing Stone Gallery in Ybor City is hosting its monthly Art on 19th event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Typically this involves putting one or more artists out on the porch to demonstrate their work for the public.

This month the featured artists are co-owner and jewelry artist Dan Balk and guest artist Candy Woolley. Balk designs and creates sculptural jewelry pieces in sterling silver and gold, adorning them with precious and semi-precious stones.

“It’s unique because he’s going to bring his entire jeweler’s bench outside on the porch and work,” said co-owner Nataly Balk. “So people can watch him and ask questions.”

Woolley is a leather artist from Miami who designs and creates luxury handbags. Her modern, highly crafted purses are made from fine leathers and exotic skins.

“Her designer handbags are very well put together, very much like Dan’s pieces,” Nataly Balk said.

Also, at 1 p.m. today, the gallery will draw the winning ticket for a piece of handmade art. Proceeds from the tickets sold during the past month benefit Quest, a not-for-profit training center for adults with disabilities.
