One man has been arrested on suspicion of selling counterfeit merchandise, including CDs, DVDs and designer handbags, at a Greenfield hair salon.
According to an affidavit accompanying a search warrant released Tuesday:
Greenfield police received an anonymous tip that Ultimate Great Kutz Barbershop, 5121 W. Forest Home Ave., was selling counterfeit merchandise.
Two undercover officers went to the shop April 16 and purchased a counterfeit Gucci purse for $50, a counterfeit Louis Vuitton clutch purse for $20 and a pirated DVD of the movie "Tower Heist" for $10. Similar authentic Louis Vuitton clutches retail for more than $500 and Gucci purses for more than $3,500.
The fake Gucci purse that the officers purchased had a "Made in China" label on the inside although the badge on the outside indicated it was made in Italy. There are no authorized resale locations for Louis Vuitton in Wisconsin.
During the purchase, which was recorded on tape, officers noticed a container behind the counter with a large number of DVD sleeves with burned DVDs.
The owner told the officers he'd receive a new shipment of 50 more purses the following Saturday.
